Way Forward

bE-Responsible initiative is addressing a critical gap in waste management - non-bulk e-waste collection and disposal. Increased consumerism in addition to higher rate of obsolescence makes it imperative to make people aware and provide suitable options for responsible disposal. Consumer responsibility is key to reducing the problem of waste in our country.

Bangalore is the 3rd largest e-waste generator in the country (92,000 MT/y in 2017), and its only appropriate that our program is focused on this city. Addressing currently some wards in Bangalore, the bE-Responsible initiative aims to cover the whole city in a few years. In a first-of-its-kind, our e-waste drop boxes provide easy disposal options to every citizen. With the current participation of Resident Welfare Association (RWAs), community groups, civic society, clubs, schools, colleges, corporate volunteers, etc., and proposed collaboration with Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and KSPCB, we hope to enhance and sustain the initiative.

Sensitisation is key to behavioural change, which is a major objective of the bE-Responsible Initiative. Strong outreach and awareness programs coupled with innovative ways to reach various stakeholders has been the strength of the Initiative.
